How to run a bingo night with a score sheet
The difference between a bingo night that drags and one that flies by is structure. Decide your rounds before guests arrive, write the pattern for each one on the sheet, and announce the pattern at the start of every round so nobody claims a win on the wrong shape. A printed sheet in front of the host means the answer to "what are we playing for?" is never a guess.
Record the winner's name the moment a bingo is verified, not at the end of the round. Hosts who wait end up with three unclaimed prizes and a room full of people who all remember winning something.
Patterns worth rotating
- Single line — any row, column, or diagonal. The default opener, about five to eight minutes.
- Four corners — fastest round of the night and a good palate cleanser after a long one.
- Letter X — both diagonals. Slower, and the near-misses make it tense.
- Postage stamp — any 2x2 block in a corner. Quick and easy for younger players.
- Blackout — cover every square. Save it for the finale and put the best prize behind it.
