Fill the hours before midnight

The hardest part of a New Year's party is the stretch between dinner and the countdown. A few short bingo rounds give the room a rhythm and pull people away from their phones without anyone needing to organize a real activity.

Randomized boards mean the whole party can play at once. Give the call sheet to whoever is most comfortable in front of a group, and rotate callers between rounds.

Ways to play

• Classic line: five in a row across, down, or diagonally.
• Spot it: players mark things that actually happen at the party as the night goes on.
• Countdown round: play a fast four-corners game in the last fifteen minutes before midnight.
• Resolution round: paste in common resolutions and mark them as guests share theirs.
• Blackout: run one long card across the whole evening with a prize at midnight.

Kid-friendly and adult versions

For families with an early countdown, keep the default list and use chocolate coins or cereal as markers. A prize at the end of each round gives younger kids a reason to stay engaged until their own noon or nine o'clock midnight.

For adult parties, paste in your own list: the year's biggest news stories, movies, songs, or the phrases you know will be said before midnight. It becomes a year-in-review game rather than a generic party printable.
