Turn it into a review game

The default school-supply list is the easy version. The more useful version replaces it with whatever your class is studying right now: spelling words, state capitals, science vocabulary, Spanish nouns, or historical figures.

Call the definition instead of the word and students have to think before covering a square. That single change turns a filler game into real review, and it costs no extra prep because the generator handles the boards and the call sheet.

Classroom management tips

Set the winning pattern before you start so nobody argues mid-game, and always ask the winner to read their line back so you can verify against the call sheet. Rotating the pattern each round keeps the same fast reader from winning every time.

Page protectors and dry-erase markers make one print run reusable all year. Dried beans, plastic counters, and mini erasers all work as markers, and a small ziplock bag per student keeps them from ending up on the floor.
